After Libby was convicted on two counts of perjury, one of obstruction of justice, and one of making false statements to federal investigators, Libby's attorneys stated that they would seek a new trial. If that proved unsuccessful, they plan to appeal the jury's verdict. Fred Dalton Thompson continues to actively raise millions of dollars to aid in Libby's defense.
There has been speculation that President Bush would pardon Libby. Fred Thompson has stated he would pardon Libby. I doubt many Americans want a President who is discussing the pardons he would make before he even gets elected, much less pardons for former high ranking political appointees. Arthur Branch would not have taken these kind of partisan political stances in favor of someone who was in a position to have a great amount of influence about the direction of the country. Branch would have stood up and done what was right...prosecute.
This is just another reason to keep America's favorite District Attorney right were he belongs...on NBC, Friday's at 10/9c.
